Collab & Cross-Promote for Lead Gen

➡️ The Why: Do you want to amplify your brand reach, grow your audience/email list, leverage the strength of another’s large audience, create partnerships, enhance your credibility and thought leadership, all-in-all generating more leads and sales???

Here’s the plan:

  1. Create your collab and cross-promo 1-pager.

  2. Get in front of potential collabers and share your cross-promo opportunity with these influencers who have a siimilar target audience.

  3. Book a cross-promo event!

1 - Creating Your Collab & Cross-Promo 1-Pager

What is it? A simple yet compelling document designed to introduce your business, outline the value proposition of a potential partnership, and spark interest in collaboration or cross-promotional activities. It serves as a snapshot of what makes your brand unique and how a partnership could benefit both parties, ideally leading to a win-win situation.

Step-by-Step & Key Elements To Write Up Your 1-Pager:

1 - Draft Your Brand Overview: In two to three sentences, capture the essence of your brand’s mission and vision. Be clear and compelling.

2 - Articulate Your Value Proposition: Identify what sets your brand apart. Focus on benefits, not just features.

3 - Define Your Target Audience: Use data to describe your audience. Make sure to demonstrate understanding of their interests/needs and how they align with your potential partner’s audience.

4 - Incorporate Digital Presence Metrics: Collect recent statistics on metrics such as your email list size, monthly website traffic, and social media followers, and visualize the data using graphics.

5 - Outline Collaboration Opportunities: Brainstorm and list 2-3 specific, actionable ideas for cross-promotion that would be appealing to both your and your partner's audiences.

6 - Specify Success Metrics: Choose measurable outcomes that would indicate the collaboration's success.

7 - Include Contact Information: Ensure next steps and your contact details are easy to find and use a professional email address.

AI Prompt To Create Your 1-Pager:

“My business name is [enter business name] and my mission is [enter mission statement]. My target audience is [enter target audience characteristics] and my ideal customer profile (ICP) can be described as [enter ICP description].

Act as a copywriting expert, and help me create a compelling document designed to introduce my business, outline our value proposition of a potential partnership, and spark interest in collaboration or cross-promotional activities with prospective partners who have complimentary services and/or target audience. This one-pager will serve as a snapshot of what makes my brand unique and how a partnership could benefit both parties.

Please write up this one-page document based on this format:

- Brand Overview: Briefly describe my brand, including mission, vision, and the customers I serve.

- Value Proposition: Clearly articulate the unique value my business brings to the table.

- Target Audience: Define my primary audience demographics and interests.

- Digital Presence Metrics: Provide space for me to include key statistics that reflect my brand's reach and influence, such as # of email subscribers, monthly website traffic, and social media followers broken down by social platform.

- Collaboration Opportunities: Outline specific ideas for cross-promotion, such as email list promotions, social media promotion, giveaways/contests, co-hosted events, joint webinars, shared content creation, or exclusive deals for each other’s audiences.

- Success Metrics: Mention how success will be measured from the collaboration, including potential KPIs like increased audience engagement, lead generation, or sales.

- Contact Information: Provide a space for me to include clear contact details and next steps for further discussions about the partnership.”

2 - Three Easy Ways To Get In Front Of Potential Collabers

  1. Virtual Networking: A no brainer and the #1 way to meet prospective collabers.

    • First, register for at least 2 virtual networking events this month.

    • Then, at each networking event make a concerted effort to connect with and exchange contact info (get their calendar link, LinkedIn profile link, or email address).

    • Schedule a get-to-know you 1:1.

  2. Reach Out To LinkedIn Network: Using search filters, run a LinkedIn search to find 2nd connections who'd be great prospects to collab with.

    • Reach out to your shared first connection to request a virtual intro.

    • Book a quick 1:1 chat with this new connection.

  3. Identify Content Creators: Do a Google search on topics of interest to your audience.

    • Find blogs and YouTube creators that have 10k+ monthly website traffic / or a large YT following.

    • Follow and subscribe to their socials, and engage with their content.

    • Pitch yourself as a guest on their blog or platform!

3 - How You ‘Book’ A Cross-Promo Event

Once you’ve gotten confirmation that a connection would like to be a part of a cross-promotion campaign with you, send them a simple ‘contract’.

Keep it simple: Include the date the cross-promo event will occur and brief details of what each party agrees to do pre-, during, and post-event.

For example: In an email list cross-promo, where both parties will promote the other party’s course or newsletter, your contract might be spelled out in the description area of a calendar invite and include the:

  • Calendar invite date = Date both parties will send out the email to their list by.

  • Pre-event activities: Each party will share the promo copy and graphic they’d like the other to use in their email within 1-week prior to the event date.

  • During event activities: Each party will share the email with their social media audience.

  • Post-event activities: Each party will share cross-promo campaign engagement and conversion results within 30 days after the event date.

Easy Cross-Promotion Ideas

As you can see, cross-promotion can be as simple or as complex as you’d like.

Most cross-promotions that are simple, will probably yield lower conversions… however, since they require less time and effort you can work more into your already busy schedule.

On the other hand, cross-promos that are a bit more complex tend to yield more conversion or revenue…however, since they require more time and effort you’ll only be able to run a max of 1-3 per year - so choose wisely who you select for your more complex cross-promos.

Vet these collabers and confirm their audience matches your ideal customer profile, and that they will put in equal and considerable effort to ensure the cross-promo yields the best possible results.

Ideas for Cross Promotion:

Simple:

  1. Email Newsletter Features: Include a section in your email newsletters that highlights your partner's services or products.

  2. Social media shoutouts: Exchange shoutouts or features on each other's social media platforms.

  3. Bundle offers: Create special bundle offers that include products or services from both businesses at a discounted rate.

  4. Run a Contest or Giveaway: Collaborate on a contest or giveaway that requires participants to engage with both brands.

  5. Website Banner Ad: Get your business featured in a banner ad on their website for a specified period.

  6. Guest Blogging: Write guest posts for each other's blogs.

  7. Joint Discount Codes: Offer special discount codes that customers can use on either business's platform.

More Complex:

  1. Joint Webinars or Workshops: Host webinars or educational workshops together on topics of mutual interest to your audience.

  2. Guest Podcast Interview: If one or both of you have podcasts, interview each other or mention your partner’s offerings in episodes.

  3. Affiliate Program: Set up an affiliate program where you both promote each other's services or products in exchange for a commission on sales.

One last thing, keep in mind each party’s MVP - you might not host a podcast or your email list might be small, but your LinkedIn engagement and audience large. Consider this when selecting the channel you and your party will cross-promote on.

You both don’t have to select the same channels!
